Neptune Direct in Pisces

We’ve been riding this Neptunian wave since June 25, 2021. Or more accurately we have been floating out in the deep seas of our subconscious minds. Retrogrades have that effect on people, almost like two passing trains making you feel like you are going slower that you actually are. Have you ever just want to crawl back into the Matrix? To pretend like the things that you have woken up to aren’t true? Like it was all an illusion?

This particular retrograde gave us the opportunity to turn inward, inviting us to identify fallacies or falsehoods in our lives. Neptune’s transits specifically likes to point itself in the direction of generational trauma, and the collective as a whole. That is a lot to unpack. Millennials, such as myself, are ruled by Pluto. It’s pretty much our job on this planet to heal our own familial shit, so we can finally stop passing this garbage down to our children. I mean, for all you other people out there who are having crotch goblins. I, sure as hell, am not. I’ll just be over here doing my part to keep the population down to a minimum.

My Neptune happens to be in Sagittarius, my 6th house of selfcare and wellness. He answers ‘who is the man?’ Something that I have been learning over the years, and will probably continue to have to educate myself about for the foreseeable future, is that things can be real but not true. That thinking that you are holding so tightly to might not in fact be a fact. Think about how much 2020 opened up our awareness to all the crazy going on in this world. It’s hard for me to imagine someone not coming out of that experience a slightly different (hopefully more compassionate) person.

Just like Maury’s lie detector test, I have determined many lies in my life. I believed things that I thought were true, until I learned more. And then I changed my mind. It’s called growth. Unfortunately we live in a world that is evolving at a much faster pace than our lizard brains could possibly keep up with. We aren’t meant to have this much information thrown at us, or see so much horror repeatedly being shoved in our faces. We simply do not have the mental or emotional capacity for all of it.

I pulled the Eight Discs the day this whole retrograde began. This is “a card of encouragement and reassurance that the energy you invest in your development will be worth your while” (Biddy Tarot). Although this may feel like a tedious affair, skill development requires that we take on an apprenticeship with ourselves. Who are you underneath all of that conditioning? I am slightly curious myself to see what may become of me after shedding yet another protective shell that I have turtled my way into.

What got you here won’t get you there.

I feel like that quote gets attributed to Oprah a lot, but I’m not entirely sure it was hers to begin with. Whatever. The point remains that we reach a point in our lives where the ways in which we protected ourselves when we were younger stop working. We get stuck. We keep circling the drain, not realizing that freedom lies when you come out the other end of the pipe. First we were lizards, and now we are dead fish.

The next animal on coming back to our true selves is the phoenix. The rune I pulled was Uruz, which asks us to “seek among the ashes and discover a new perspective and new strength.” (The Book of Runes, Ralph Blum) You can shed the parts of you that are no longer necessary. I don’t know if you need that permission, but I sure did.

I don’t want to feel like an afterthought…

We all feel this way. Most people just aren’t willing to say it aloud. It’s actually one of the two natural traits of being a human. Every single person on this planet wants to be seen and wants to be heard. The problem is that we put people on the wrong pedestals, the people who we want to receive that from. Neptune direct is asking us to use discernment and to set boundaries, to protect our own sacred energy. It’s what we’ve been practicing during this retrograde. We got this, at least until June 28, 2022 when it goes back into retrograde for another exciting life lesson.

The Tethered One, more familiarly known as the Hanged Man is ruled by Neptune. This card reminds us to stay rooted while those parts of you die away. It prepares us for death of the self. The leaves dry up and fall away from the trees every year as winter approaches. And every spring, like clockwork, new seedlings will emerge. We humans are that same way. We have times in our lives where we must slow down, hibernate, stop doing so much. “As Odin hung upon the World Tree, Yggdrasil in his quest for knowledge, thus to attain the greatest rewards, one must be willing to give up the self.” (Shadowscapes Companion, Barbara Moore) Pay attention to the pauses that this life offers you, otherwise it may very well force you to stop.
