Zodiac’s storyteller travels its journey through our galactic skies from June 23 to August 22. This fire sign also happens to be my moon sign. (Holy crap! Remember that time I got blown up in a food truck during a full moon? That’s some weird synchronicity.) Everyone spends a ton of time talking about their sun sign (Mine is Libra.) but the moon sign is oh so very important as well, probably even more so.
Mother Nourish, she is sometimes called, rules the emotional systems, the five senses, and intuition. What do you hold dear to your heart? How do you feel about the world? These are the types of questions the moon can answer.
If you want to go even deeper, the type of moon you were born on also plays an impact on how you view this crazy thing we call life. I was born under a Balsamic Moon (AKA 3rd Quarter Moon, AKA Waning Moon). According to people who know more about this stuff than I do, this means that I have an innate ability to see things from a higher perspective. It’s like looking at things from a birds-eye view. Interesting.
Inviting Mara to Tea
This shit is hard. I am not going to paint a pretty picture for you. (Ben does that. Ha!) There is so much ugly crying, and feeling all those crappy emotions that I have shoved down trying to avoid for so long. It’s cliché AF, but feeling your emotions actually works. Amazingly enough, it makes you feel better. Fuuuuuuuuck. This feels like some serious dark side of the moon type shit.
Buddha by Deepak Chopra describes this beautifully. He went from being a prince to a monk to being enlightened, a man of many sides. I mean, I was deemed a princess out of the womb. Then I found me some Jesus in therapy (whatever that means). Is this the enlightened part? In all honesty I just got tired of masking all the time.
Riding my motorcycle, The wind running through my hair, I went over an enormous bump And went soaring through the air. I landed on my head, Blood was running down my face. An ambulance drove toward me. I felt extremely out of place. A man looked down at where I was And described the scene to me. I guess that living longer Wasn't how it's supposed to be.
The Lion’s Roar
In Wizard of Oz the Lion lost his courage. He then proceeded, along with three other men, to traipse through the woods relying on a mere child to help him find it again, only then to realize that the courage he was searching for was inside of him the whole time. (I will save some of that conversation for another day. I digress.) Somehow I ended up light years away from where I think I was meant to be. Somewhere along the way, I lost myself.
Where am I uncomfortable being seen? Everywhere. All the time. Is this a trick question? I grew up feeling like something was wrong with me all the time, or like I was at fault for something that I never could quite figure out.
I was wrong, just about the wrong part. Nothing is wrong with me. Everybody else is the problem. I kid (but not really). Our fucked up culture did its job very well. It fought the human right out of me.
It’s a jungle out there, (Cue the theme song from Monk.) and I got lost in the woods. Sometimes the only right course of action is to cut your own path, machete your way out. Or you could get blown up and dropped on your ass. You don’t have to go that route. Please, don’t be like Jen.

I’m just going to be over here donning myself in moonstone so I can fully embody all those Divine Feminine vibes. Shit! I will drive the goddamned woo-woo train if I must. I mean, what else is there left to do? Damn the man! Save the empire! Crap. Now I’ve got to go add Empire Records to the watch list. I love that fucking movie.
Leo is ruled by the Sun (There we go with that fire energy again.) Could we maybe abandon this false illusion that we are supposed to get everything right. I know that ‘not failing’ has been drilled into our brains since birth. I simply don’t agree with their definition of failure.
Sowelu is here to remind us that everything that your heart desires is already inside of you. Ariana Grande said it best, “the light is coming to give back everything the darkness stole.” You just have to be willing to dumpster dive.
Can we just stop with this nonsense that we are supposed to be getting it right all the time? Joy begets joy. That’s what the Sun card can offer us this season. This shit is deceptively simple. Aren’t you, just like me, afraid to be seen?
My therapist once told me to stop working so hard on myself and to start living again. That’s what fire energy can do. It can burn you down, but just like dawn, it can also wake you up.
Enjoy my On Fire playlist, while you channel your own lion(ess) energy this Leo season!
Mad love, Jenna
