Leo Full Snow Moon

While January tends to be the coldest month of the year, February is the month that typically has the heaviest snow fall. During the Full Snow Moon, Native Americans would use this time to trap beavers, foxes, and mink. This is the time when their furs are filled in the most, making them the warmest pelts to obtain during this season. This particular Full Snow Moon is in Leo, inviting us to summon our fierce nature.

The corresponding New Moon is Leo occurred August 6, 2021, which started off this cycle. It asked us to seek fresh avenues of inspiration. These moments can be brutal for some. Returning to a place of childlike glee requires an unmasking of sorts, a naked honesty with ourselves. What truly does make one happy? For me it was more of a homecoming than any new thing, returning to the things that I loved as a child, but hid away out of fear. Forcing myself to conform to other’s ideas of what or who I should be ended up making me the exact opposite of happy. It made me hate everything that I had become, and I made it my responsibility to get back to myself, the real Jenna underneath it all.

Lion’s Gate

August 8, 2021 was also when the Lion’s Gate portal was open, giving us an opportunity for laser-focused manifestation. Astrologically speaking the Lion’s Gate is when the sun is in Leo and the star Sirius (aka the spiritual sun) moves closer to the Earth and aligns with Orion’s belt. These are the moments in which we can make some tremendous changes in our lives. I have had to learn how to quiet the thoughts in my head, so that I can hear the quiet voice of the heart. Eight, the number of infinity, reminds us that this is a lifelong process. The world is in a constant state of change, and in being a part of this world, so are we.

When Alice fell into that rabbit hole, she was forced to change sizes in order to get to the other side of this Wonderland she found herself in. She found the cup that said “Drink Me,” and she did to fit herself into that small wooden doorway. Isn’t that what we all do at some point in our lives? We condense ourselves into these pretty little packages, hoping to join in with the collective consciousness, hoping to be accepted into the cool kid group. Or maybe just to feel like we belong to something?

At some point in our lives we stop wanting to fit into those boxes that society deems worthy. We start to look for that worthiness in ourselves, and what actually ends up happening is that we become the person that we were to begin with, before all the outside bullshit got piled onto us. That little piece of cake that said “Eat Me” made Alice grow exponentially from that tiny self, much like a teenager going through a growth spurt. All of that maturation comes with a ton of lessons to learn. You can have your cake and eat it too. The trick is to keep learning, to keep being curious, and to be kind about it along the way.

with plenty of backbone
and a whole lot of love

Full moons symbolize the climax to situations that are going on in our lives, allowing us to release whatever it is that we need to move on from. I can hear Elsa singing “Let It Go” already. I have still not seen that movie in case you were wondering. As much as I love Disney, there are a few movies that I just can’t. The Fox & the Hound is another one. Oh! And the movie Up. I was sobbing from the beginning of that one right until the end.

August was an emotional rollercoaster for me to say the least. I would have to say it was most like the Scooby Doo ride at King’s Dominion, a little slow, bumpy, and full of splinters. I had to sit with a lot of ugly emotions, things that were coming up from my childhood, another round of trauma into the mix. Hurt people hurt people. It’s why I’ve spent so much energy, time, and effort into healing myself. I have never wanted to hurt anyone. Most of the time I just wanted to be left alone.

Everyone has an opinion about everything it seems. They shroud their criticisms in phrases such as, “I was only trying to help.” Constructive criticism isn’t actually helpful, as it ends up making people feel worse about themselves. A synonym for criticism is judgement, which is the last thing that anyone needs more of. The antidote is praise, something I very rarely received during my childhood. Most of the phrases I remember hearing are things like, “Jenna get out of the way” or “Jenna be quiet.” It appears I will be waiting a lifetime for my parents to tell me that they are proud of me. I won’t hold my breath, but it is something that I have learned to accept.

Mad love, Jenna
