We crawl before we can walk. We climb before we can descend. We try very hard not to fall on our heads when we are inverted on the pole. It’s only happened once so far, and luckily I was low enough to the ground so it wasn’t too bad of a drop. It sounded terrible though.
I have come to learn that Gemini, also known as the Outside Leg Hang, is one of those moves that can set you up for any number of other moves. In order to get there though, one must first go up and then slowly settle down into an upside down position. This involves an understanding of how important the various points of contact are while you are transitioning into this shape, but also a hell of a lot of courage and trust in yourself.
I had done this move once before, the transition from Gemini to Scorpio. Scorpio is what’s known as the Inside Leg Hang, and let me tell you that there is very little point of contact in that position. That one still feels a bit scary to me, especially as I’m still getting used to being upside down in the first place.
Why they call this a hip hold when the pole is actually being shoved into your inner thigh space confuses the hell out of me, but it is what it is I suppose. I am seriously falling in love with this move as a way to get back down onto the ground. It’s makes me feel sexy in a way that I can’t exactly describe.
All three of these moves have the option to hold them without the usage of your hands, but honestly that terrifies me. I don’t quite trust myself not to slide down the pole, and that I think is just something that will come with more time and practice. Dancing on the pole is teaching me so much about myself and what I am capable of. I am excited to see where it all goes from here as I continue to unlock new moves and hopefully conquer greater fears.
Mad love, Jenna
